This weekend, several bookstores across the Capital Region collected books for infants who need them most.

In 2009, Sara Quartiers gave birth to a little boy named Cameron at Albany Medical Center.

Cameron was born 16 weeks premature, and passed away eight months later.

But his story lives on.

To honor Cameron, Sara founded a nonprofit organization called 'Project: Cameron’s Story.'

Each year, during the weekend of Cameron’s birthday, February 16th, the nonprofit holds a fundraiser at various local bookstores, like the Barnes & Noble in Saratoga Springs.

The reason is because Cameron loved books.

During his time in the hospital, Sara started reading books to Cameron as a way to connect with him and allow him to hear her voice.

She says reading to him created some of the finest moments of her life.

Nine years later, and 'Project: Cameron’s Story' has donated nearly 100,000 books to 12 of the largest hospitals in the state, so that parents in similar situations can form similar bonds with their child.

"It was the first ‘I can’ in a list of ‘I can’ts.’ At the time, I couldn’t hold him, couldn’t touch him, couldn’t feed him, it was just this long list of I can’t’s but when I started reading to him it suddenly became ‘well I can do this, I can't do those other things, but I can do this,’" said Quartiers.

'Project: Cameron’s Story' has 153 collection sites across New York.
