ALBANY, N.Y. -- The fight for 'Dreamers' came to Albany on Tuesday when about two dozen people headed to the federal building. Protesters are hoping to sway Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand into voting for a clean DACA bill.
Supporters say 'Dreamers' came to the United States as children, and that they don't deserve to be sent to a country they've never known. Besides holding signs and participating in chants, they delivered letters, and are specifically asking Schumer for his support.
"I think we will probably end up with a bill with some border security in it some funding for minimal things on the border, but we don't want to give away the whole farm," said event organizer Megan Kaminski. "DACA is important. Eighty-six percent of Americans support it."
Spectrum News did receive a statement from Schumer's spokesman, Jason Kaplan. According to him, Schumer is actively meeting with advocates and is working "nonstop" to reach a bipartisan deal.
