ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Every year the dean of the School of Business at St. John Fisher College gets a group together to analyze which Super Bowl commercials will score big with viewers.

Doctor Rama Yelkur has spent 20 years creating a gameplan for Super Bowl commercial success. Her research has uncovered five predictors for what she says will make an ad consistently popular among viewers today: Humor, animals, product category, product information and music.

After the game she worked alongside two students and a colleague to analyze the data from Sunday's ads, to look for any emerging predictors.

One commercial that especially stuck out to Yelkur this year was for Amazon Echo.

"It gives us humor, it gives us celebrity, it gives us entertainment in the combination of humor and celebrity," said Dr. Yelkur. "It doesn't have animals. It has a lot of music in the background, so music is one of our factors.

Last year, four of the brands that achieved high marks on their survey also scored high on the Ad Likeability Scale.
