ALBANY, N.Y. — People across the country took part in the second annual Women's March Saturday.

On the one year anniversary of President Donald Trump's inauguration, people from across the Capital Region poured into West Capitol Park in Albany.

Thousands were in attendance, showing support for women's rights and rallying to encourage female empowerment.

"It is a message to them and that we're not just sitting back," said Irene Murray, an Albany resident.

The massive crowd held signs to express their displeasure toward President Trump's first 12 months in office. They denounced his views on immigration, LGBTQ rights and women's rights.

Emily Marynczak is one of the organizers of the march.

"Women have been getting elected in record numbers and so we're hoping to build on that momentum," Marynczak said.

Following the rally at West Capitol Park, thousands took it to the streets to continue to make their voices heard as they marched down Washington Avenue.

"It comes down to with liberty and justice for all," said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan. "And all means everyone, not just some people."

With midterm elections coming up this fall, many there hope the march will inspire people to get out and vote, or even run for public office this November.

"There's no elected position that's too small to really matter and be a part of the solution," Marynczak said.
