ALBANY, N.Y. -- Residents in the Capital Region are doing all they can to stay warm the next few days with temperatures hovering around zero degrees.

“I have four layers on. I have my long johns on,” said Albany resident Charlotte Brown, who was waiting for her bus on State Street Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills are expected to range from -15 to -40 degrees Friday and Saturday. A wind chill warning is effect for the Capital Region through Sunday.

“People need to stay bundled. It’s affecting a lot of people with asthma," said Jason Mass, chief supervisor of Mohawk Ambulance, who says multiple layers, hats, and gloves are a must to avoid cold-related injuries this weekend.

During the winter months, Mohawk Ambulance has experienced an increase in calls for frostbite and hypothermia.

"No bare skin. If you do have to go out, make sure everything is covered," Mass said. "You can get frostbite in minutes."

Many are trying to avoid those injuries by staying indoors as much as they can the next few days.

“I just got a space heater, so I’m going to try and stay close to that as possible,” Albany resident Cole Gleason said.
