A New York State Trooper is being remembered by the community after he passed away Tuesday from illness related to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

According to New York State Police, Trooper Michael Anson was assigned with assisting in search and recovery efforts in New York City, following the events of 9/11.

In 2003, Anson became a school resource officer for Averill Park and Brunswick school districts. Wednesday afternoon, representatives from both districts discussed Anson’s time as a school resource officer.

“He was the type of person who was always there for us when we needed him," said Jim Franchini, superintendent for Averill Park Central School District. "Any time we called him, obviously it meant there was an issue, and he always responded. Always willing to help, had a lot of energy, excited to be down there, do whatever he could to help out the kids and the staff. Just a great guy to be around."

Anson is survived by his wife, their three children and his brothers. Funeral arrangements are still being made.
