TROY, N.Y. -- This weekend, two men were charged in the deaths of the four people killed in a basement apartment in Troy just before Christmas.

The family of victims Shanta Myers, "JJ" Myers, Shanise Myers and Brandi Mells says it is trying to get back to normal, doing simple things like going back to work and enjoying cooking. Family members are confident they’ll get there, but say the road isn’t going to be easy.

Khalif Coleman is Shanta’s nephew. He says he has been flooded with messages from people who have also experienced loss.

Coleman says he doesn’t know the two men arrested in connection to the quadruple homicide, but family has told him 24-year-old Justin Mann was friends with Brandi Mells, who is one of the victims. He says he wants to speak to both him and the other man facing charges, 38-year-old James White.

“I have to ask him a real deep question. I have to talk to him," Coleman said. "I have to get in a murderer's mind because, no offense, when you kill somebody, there’s certain people in the family that can turn insane just because of it. I’m not saying I’m insane, but you made my mind think wonders."

Coleman says he is looking into ways for artists to paint memorials and hold community events.
