ALBANY, N.Y. — A full day of deliberations Friday ended without a decision from the jury in the Edward Mero double-murder trial.

Mero is accused of killing two young women in the Capital Region: his roommate Megan Cunningham in January of 2013, and a known prostitute, Shelby Countermine, almost two years later.

Mero is also accused of burying Countermine's body in a shallow grave in a remote part of the town of Coeymans. Her body was badly decomposed when it was discovered in May 2015.

On Friday, the jury sent four notes to the judge asking to hear testimony read back from several witnesses — including the medical testimony regarding Countermine’s autopsy. The jury also asked to hear specific definitions of the charges Mero is facing: two counts of second-degree murder, and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Without any decision Friday, the jury is set to return Monday morning at 9 a.m. to continue deliberations. If Mero is found guilty on both murder charges, he would face at least 50 years in state prison.
