COHOES, N.Y. -- The Cohoes Democratic Committee is standing behind Mayor Shawn Morse following domestic abuse allegations.
Morse requested the meeting Wednesday night at the American Legion in the city.
According to Chairman Gil Ethier, Morse explained his situation to the committee during a closed meeting. Morse continued to defend himself, saying the November police call to his home is a personal matter.
Ethier says the committee is still backing Morse, despite him being under investigation by state police and the district attorney's office.
“I think most feel it’s a personal issue," Ethier said. "It doesn't have much to do with him being the mayor of the city, as long as it doesn't affect him staying focus on the job as mayor.”
Following the closed meeting, Morse left through a back exit and did not address reporters.
