Schuylerville officials want the EPA to get General Electric to clean a canal not part of the $1.7 billion Hudson River dredging project.

Mayor Dan Carpenter says the EPA made a "huge error" in not including part of the Champlain Canal.

He says it's "hydrologically connected to the river and was flowing when the PCBs were released."

It comes amid concerns over soil contamination in the flood plain of the Hudson River.

GE has agreed to spend $20 million on soil testing in the flood plain along where dredging took place.

It could, however, take at least five years before the company has an agreement with the EPA on addressing any contamination in that area.
