A former scientist from the State's Wadsworth Center in Albany was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry during a ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall in Sweden on Sunday.

Dr. Joachim Frank received the award for his pioneering cryo-electron microscopy research that allowed scientists around the world to view three-dimensional images of biomolecules.

The breakthrough allows researchers to look inside of the Zika Virus, bacteria and other cellular structures giving them the ability to develop new medicines and treatments.
