You probably don’t have many memories of the Civil War era, but one local store does.

Albany’s B. Lodge and Co. Department Store is celebrating 150 years in business.

“This year is one of our best years yet," said Mark Yonally, the store's president.

A century and a half after opening, and B. Lodge and Co. is doing better than ever.

“We pride ourselves on customer service; try to help everyone that comes in," said Yonally.

On Tuesday, it wasn’t just customers coming, but also local political leaders for a celebration decades and decades in the making.

One of the reasons for Lodge's long-time success is its large inventory of scrubs and school uniforms. The stores sells uniforms to 27 schools, and scrubs to thousands of nurses in the Capital Region.

But Yonally says it’s his company’s customer service that keeps the store in business.

“We're a one-store operation," he said. "If customers are looking for something, I find it. If something’s in, I make sure we have it in here."

Remarkably, in its 150 years of business, just three families have owned B. Lodge and Co.
