ROCHESTER, N.Y. --  A K-9 in the Livingston County Sheriff's Office will be outfitted with body armor.

K-9 Kane’s bullet and stab protective vest is sponsored by an anonymous sponsor and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Only the best protection for man's best friend”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement. The non-profit assists law enforcement agencies with potentially lifesaving body armor for their dogs. Since its inception, the organization has provided over 2,700 protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate donations.

The required donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.

“We are very pleased that a Livingston County resident donated money to Vested Interest to purchase a vest to protect Kane," said Deputy Matthew Moran, K9 Kane’s handler.
