ROTTERDAM, N.Y. — The site of the former Curry Road Shopping Plaza in Rotterdam is now home to an apartment complex. The property sat vacant for more than 25 years. The $28 million project began last year.

“To see this kind of investment, bringing this site back to life, once again making it a beautiful location here in Rotterdam and a vibrant part of the community, it's exciting,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.

“Our goal here is to offer a variety of sizes, bedroom count and floor plans,” said Bill Hoblock, executive vice president of Richbell Capital Development.

The 208-unit apartment complex, called Residences at Vista Square, will have eight, three-story buildings and a clubhouse when complete.

“We'll have a great room, a state of the art fitness center, we’ll have a movie theatre, a coffee bar, and this is all complimentary for the residents that live here. And we’ll have a pool right next to it,” Hoblock said about the clubhouse.

Tenants will begin moving into one building in April. The other three buildings will be finished by summer and then phase two, which is building the final four structures, will begin. It’s a project bringing new housing to a community on the rise.

“We have construction happening on Hamburg Street with a new sewer line going in. The state is putting millions of dollars into new roadways, sidewalks, water infrastructure,” said Rotterdam Town Supervisor Steven Tommasone.

“This will be one of the gems in the town of Rotterdam,” said Santabarbara.

In addition to the apartment complex, a separate project will be underway next to Trustco Bank, bringing new businesses to the site and the firehouse next door will be getting additional space. The project will be complete in 2019.
