TROY, N.Y. -- Barbers in the Capital Region were clipping and cutting for a cause on Sunday.

“A brand new haircut is like getting a car wash. When you got an old car and you run through the car wash you feel brand new,” said Rasi Harper, a barber at Henry Street Barbershop in Saratoga Springs.

Henry Street Barbershop offers free haircuts to veterans, the homeless, and anyone in need the first Sunday every month.

“It’s getting better and better every time. It started with just us and now we got a bunch of guys getting on board,” said Devin Wicks, the owner of Henry Street Barbershop.

Wicks brought the mission to the Troy Boys & Girls Club on Sunday and invited other barbers to join.

“These guys—there is no competition. Everybody called me up and reached out and they wanted to be a part of it and donate their services,” said Harper.

“This is a blessing. I’m very grateful and very appreciative,” said Chauncey Schoolfield, who was getting a haircut.

Each event allows the barbers to help more people.

“They’re here to give back and to just do a good deed and a good deed goes a long way,” said Schoolfield.

“The ultimate goal is actually getting a barber bus and going to the VA, going to the missions,” said Harper.

“You feel good about yourself, you feel confident, you feel alive,” said Schoolfield.
