CARY, N.C. – Town leaders in Cary continue to draw criticism for their latest construction project.

Officials are extending Yates Store Road which will cut right through the American Tobacco Trail.

The plan also includes a pedestrian tunnel underneath the road so that trail users won’t have to stop.

Some trail users oppose those changes, but town officials contend this is about doing what’s best for pedestrians and drivers.

“Cary is ensuring the safe pedestrian crossing of the road, and the pedestrians, the bicycles, and the vehicles,” said construction manager Paul Kuhn.

Construction crews expect to finish the project by the spring of next year.
