MILTON, N.Y. -- A community is in mourning Monday following the deaths of two teenagers in Saratoga County. They died in a car crash over the weekend.
Galway School District Superintendent Shannon Shine calls the school the "community center," as each grade has about 65 students. Shine says the school is in a bit of shock after hearing the news about Sunday’s fatal accident.
Early Sunday morning, officials say 19-year-old Logan Wieland of Galway and 19-year old Conor Bradshaw of Ballston Spa were killed when the car they were driving in crashed on Birchton Road in Milton. Officials say the car left the road and struck a tree around 3 a.m. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Both Wieland and Bradshaw graduated from Galway in 2016. Shine says both were involved in sports, and that Bradshaw was a soccer player and Wieland was on the wrestling team.
Administrators met early Monday morning and have assembled their crisis team, which is available for anyone on campus who needs it.
“While we do have a lot of students who are impacted who might be related to the deceased students, or alumni, rather, it’s the faculty that have known them for right through, so it’s pretty tough for folks,” said Shine.
That crisis team will be on campus for as long as it is needed.
The crash is still under investigation and a cause has not been released. Autopsies have been conducted, and Sheriff Michael Zurlo says they are waiting on toxicology tests.
