ALBANY, N.Y. -- This year marks the 30th anniversary of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Albany County's only program and 24/7 emergency shelter for domestic violence victims is highlighting awareness.

Equinox is partnering with the County's Coalition Against Domestic Abuse to raise awareness.

All Equinox offices are decorated in purple.

Advocates say October shines a light on victims as well as encourage everyone to support efforts that will help those victims take back control.

Additionally, anyone can participate in the “Purple Hands Campaign" through the end of this month, where participants write a non-violent activity on it that their hands are made for.

Hands will be available at locations throughout Albany County, including Equinox.
