On Monday afternoon, police remained on the scene of a shooting that happened a night earlier in a quiet Saratoga County neighborhood.

According to New York State Police, 35-year-old Michael Desnoyers of Moreau was shot by 24-year-old Joey M. Castro. The two men are neighbors on Laurel Road.

According to troopers, the pair got into an argument that led to the alleged shooting. One neighbor tells Spectrum News she heard five loud bangs Monday night, but initially believed they were fireworks until receiving a phone call from her boyfriend who's a local firefighter.

"I was surprised," said Missy Root. "When he asked me if the doors were locked, my question to him was 'Was that gunshots?' He said 'Yeah, that's what it's coming over the scanner as.' So we just made sure the doors were locked."

Castro has been charged with assault in the first degree and criminal use of a firearm. Desnoyers was flown to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
