ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County officials say taxpayers could potentially save $10 million annually under its shared services plan.

On Wednesday, the county delivered its final presentation on the plan. Last month, the plan was approved 20-0. It included eight proposals, including purchasing energy together, joint purchasing agreements and a county health consortium.

Officials say when fully implemented by 2019, the annual savings could reach more than $15 million.

“What came out of this was, municipalities do some things well and have certain tools that they can offer to other folks,” said Rockefeller Institute of Government President Jim Malatras.

The shared services plan has been submitted to the state. Officials say implements of these proposals are underway.
