An animal shelter in Scotia is raising money to pay for a dog’s costly surgery. Logan, a 1-year-old pit mix, was recently surrendered to the Animal Protective Foundation of Scotia.

"Nobody knows what he’s been through, but he has definitely seen some things,” said APF shelter director Amy Duskiewicz.

His owner, who rescued him not long ago, brought him to the shelter after realizing the dog was hurt. Duskiewicz says they immediately noticed the injury.

"He was falling over and he would just be standing here like this, and just collapse on his leg. He couldn’t support his weight on that leg,” said Duskiewicz.

Logan has a fractured hip bone, leaving him in pain. He has a hard time with balance, too. He’s scheduled for surgery next Wednesday, but it is going to cost $3,500.

"That is more than we are typically able to do for just one animal in our care, and that is why we are appealing to our community to help support his care,” Duskiewicz added.

Logan’s recovery will take 4 to 6 weeks. After that, he will be placed in a foster home. Then he’ll go up for adoption.
