A Schenectady man will spend at least 25 years in prison for killing his girlfriend last year.

Raekwon Stover, 19, was convicted of murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Medina Knowles. Stover is accused of shooting her in the head at her Schenectady home last September.

Knowles was the mother of a 2-year-old. Her family says she was excited to return to classes at Schenectady High School, which was supposed to happen the day after she was shot.

Stover cried in court as Knowles' mother delivered an emotional victim impact statement.

"I am extremely bothered by the fact that her murderer was obviously unconcerned that her child, me and three of her siblings were actually home when he killed her," she said.

In court this morning, Stover's defense attorney questioned the detectives' findings during the investigation. But the district attorney's office says it's confident in its case and is satisfied with the sentence.
