GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- A familiar name is coming back to the Capital Region -- but this time in Glens Falls.

The Adirondack Thunder announced the team is now the ECHL affiliate for the Devils Tuesday.

It is currently a one-year deal, but officials say they will be exploring a chance to extend that.

The Devils have some history in the area. The team was connected to the Albany River Rats and later the Albany Devils on two different stints before taking them team to Binghamton.

And it's the connections they made during those years that officials in Glens Falls are hoping to use to their advantage.

"We are already reaching out to them.  We are going to try to get some special things to get them up.  It was like that with the Red Wings.  Everybody came up until they lose that affiliation and opened that door up we had all those people from Colonie and all that.  We look forward to bringing them home and treating them well again,” said Ed Moore, with the Civic Center Coalition.

The Thunder will also have a new coach in former RPI standout Brad Tapper.
