ALBANY, N.Y. -- It's just a few weeks into summer vacation and Saturday marked the 7th annual Summer Celebration and Safety Day in Albany.

Hundreds of children and families came out to celebrate at Kramer Park.

Free hot dogs, hamburgers and much more food was provided.

Music, games, face painting and give-aways like bikes, book bags and gift cards happened throughout the day.

Emergency officials were also on scene giving safety information and demonstrations.

The goal is to teach children how to stay safe during the summer season.

"The kids are having fun," said Carolyn McLaughlin. "They're learning about fire trucks, ambulance service, state police, Albany police. It's just a really good time to connect with the community."

"It brings the community together where they can come out, have a good time, relax and enjoy themselves," said Cathy Ednmonson, Albany City School District community engagement coordinator.

The celebration is now over, but organizers say they'll begin planning for next year very soon.
