No arrest yet in the hit and run that killed a former UAlbany student over the weekend in Albany's Washington Park. However, police say they have located the vehicle they believe was involved. Jon Dougherty has the latest on the investigation.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- A memorial continues to grow for 21-year-old Rajine Martinez, who Albany police say was hit and killed inside Washington Park early Saturday morning. The question now: who was behind the wheel?
Officers say they have located a vehicle they believe was involved in this crash over the weekend; however, they are remaining tightlipped on if they've identified or questioned a driver.
Albany Police Spokesman Steve Smith says it's is a very active investigation. Officers are questioning witnesses who were around the park in the early morning hours Saturday who saw an SUV drive off.
Officers believe Martinez was alone at the time and wouldn't say why she was in the park in the first place.
Smith says it's too early to tell the circumstances surrounding the crash.
"It's unknown whether speed was a factor and we're continuing the investigation. This is a good time to remind people that the speed limit in Washington Park it's not the same as across the city. The speed limit in Washington Park is actually 20 mph and we're asking people to slow down, drive slow, and be aware of their surroundings,” said Smith.
Martinez was a former UAlbany student who was also involved with Camp Scully. The camp remembers her as one of the most fun and sassy campers who turned into one best counselor at camp.
