Albany police have a man in custody who they suspect is connected to a fatal hit-and-run in Washington Park earlier this month.
On Friday, police arrested Jose Martinez on a parole violation. Officers say between 3:54 and 3:57 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, Jose hit a car on Washington Avenue and drove off before police arrived. They say he drove through Washington Park when he left the crash and was driving with a suspended license.
Around 4 that same morning, 21-year-old Rajine Martinez, a former UAlbany student, was hit and killed in Washington Park. Police now say Jose is a suspect in that fatal hit-and-run.
Jose Martinez is charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving with a suspended license. He has not been charged in connection with the hit-and-run.
