Along with state troopers, Saratoga Springs Police spent much of the day Friday at a drug raid. Our Matt Hunter has the details.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The sun had yet to rise when Saratoga Springs Police arrived at 16 Cherry Street with a search warrant Friday morning.

"During the course of the search, there was an unknown white substance, powders, that were on the two different floors of the house," said Lieutenant Bob Jillson, a spokesman for the Saratoga Springs Police Department.

"Granted, it was a narcotics related search warrant,” Jillson added. “Not knowing what this substance is, we thought it was in the best interest to pull out and defer to the specialist, so we deferred to the State Police C-SERT, so they are here now processing the scene."

Officers did arrest two men, who both now face narcotics related charges. A spokesman for the Saratoga Springs Police Department says more charges are likely once the forensics team completes its investigation.

"As far as saying it is a drug dealer or not a drug dealer, we will wait and see how things play out once we find all of the evidence, and identify who is involved and what's involved," Jillson said.

Wearing white protective gear, state police forensic investigators removed and analyzed evidence from the home through the late afternoon, while the city's HAZMAT team stood by just in case.

It is just the latest incident in the region's ongoing war with drugs.

"They are going to help us determine that to try to hopefully figure out what these substances are and what we have in the house, and to help us find the truth of what is going on here,” Jillson said.

As of late Friday, police had yet to announce the names of the two men arrested or the exact charges they're facing.
