RENSSELAER, N.Y. -- An explosion in Rensselaer destroyed a business at the Port District.

Authorities say they received a call around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for a building explosion on Riverside Avenue. The building's walls are buckled out, doors blown out the sides and roof almost entirely gone.

Authorities say this was a business that repaired and evaluated gasoline tanker trucks. They found an employee just outside the scene.

"During the process of repairing or inspecting one of those tanks, there was an explosion, but we don't have all of those particulars right now," said Rensselaer Fire Department Assistant Chief Jay Corcoran.

Officials say the employee is lucky to be alive.

They are in the process of condemning the building. No neighboring businesses were impacted.
