COLONIE, N.Y. -- More than 30 less fortunate families are getting care packages thanks to some local high school students this year.

South Colonie High School's iCARE program is donating household essentials to Interfaith Partnerships for the Homeless Housing Program.

They collected the items during a school-wide drive over the past couple of weeks. Each basket is full of food, bathroom supplies, and cleaning items.

"People need the reassurance that people do care about them. And I like being able to say hey I helped that person and I put a smile on their face. I'm helping them to not have as many things to worry about when it comes to food and clothes and things like that," said Querra Colling, the iCARE co-president.

iCARE is planning to double their donation to Interfaith Partnerships for the Homeless next year.
