It's back to school for many students in the Capital Region, and children at one Albany school got a visit from a state official on their first day.

State Education Commissioner Mary-Ellen Elia welcomed back students at Hackett Middle School in Albany Tuesday morning.

She also visited classrooms and met with teachers and administrators.

Hackett was listed on the state's underperforming schools list, and Elia says she chose to visit the middle school because it's turning around.
