Alain Kaloyeros answers to state charges in Albany after being accused of bid rigging schemes.  Barry Wygel has more on his very brief courtroom appearance from Albany.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Alain Kaloyeros, the former president of SUNY Polytech pleaded not guilty to state charges connected to alleged bid-rigging schemes.

He faces three counts of restraint of trade and competition.

Kaloyeros appeared briefly in Albany City Court Friday morning as his lawyer entered the not guilty plea.

He was released without bail.

In one of these alleged schemes, the former SUNY Poly President is accused of working with Columbia Development CEO Joseph Nicolla to win bids for a multi-million dollar dormitory project on the SUNY Poly campus.

He now faces up to 12 years in prison.

Schneiderman says Kaloyeros had bid requests written in a way that only Columbia would get them.

“Kaloyeros gave insider information to friends and fixed the bidding process to ensure his cronies won lucrative contracts funded in part by the state of New York,” Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said.

Columbia's President Joseph Nicolla is also facing state charges. Nicolla is expected to appear in court on Monday.
