ALBANY, N.Y. -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation inspected diesel truck emissions on Route 31 in the South End of Albany on Monday.
The route is a high-traffic area for diesel trucks traveling to the Albany Port Authority.
According to the DEC, such inspections are typically conducted several times a year. The details are a part of the DEC's attempt to end air pollution and protect public health.
"This is a high-traffic area, so there's a lot of trucks down here so that makes it a great reason for us to be here, not only because that's where the truck traffic is, but because there is a lot of folks around here that want to breath clean air just like the rest of us, so that's a couple of great reason for us to be down in this area,” NYS Conservation Police Lieutenant Liza Bobseine.
Along with the Albany County executive, South End residents will gather at Lincoln Park on Wednesday to discuss the risks of diesel engines and oil trains traveling through the area.
