A Schenectady man was shot and killed by police after they say he drew a gun on them.

Police say the shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. near First Avenue and Sunset Street. That's where two plain-clothes detectives were conducting an investigation.

Police say they were approached by 33-year-old Joshua Scism who, after a brief conversation, showed them he had a gun. When Sciscm took the gun out and pointed it at police, they shot him. He was taken to Ellis Hospital and died from his injuries.

It's not known if Scism fired any shots at officers.
