The Albany Common Council has voted in favor of a resolution opposing the Pilgrim Pipeline.
More than 30 people spoke at public comment Monday night. Some say the vote could send a message to investors about support for the project in Albany.
Pilgrim Transportation plans to build a 178-mile pipeline along the Thruway that would carry petroleum from New Jersey to Albany. The company says the pipeline is the safest and most cost-effective way to transport the fuel.
Many environmental groups and municipalities have banded together to reject the proposal.
