Police give an update on the fatal stabbing of a longtime Troy city employee Friday afternoon. Michael Howard has more from North Greenbush Police Department.

NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- New information has come in about a late night stabbing in Wynantskill.

North Greenbush police have confirmed that Bill Chamberlain -- Director or Operations for the city of Troy -- was stabbed to death near his home on Powell Street between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.  

"We are urging our residents of Wynantskill of any community that whenever this happens to be vigilant, make sure your doors are locked, your garage doors are closed, your lights are working outsdie.  and please anything you may see, contact us, call us," said North Greenbush Police Chief Robert Durivage.

There is no word if it was a targeted stabbing.

Several police agencies have been on the scene since late Thursday night.  They roped off a section in front of a residence with crime scene tape and put up a tent.

North Greenbush police, with the help of state police, are investigating this as a homicide. They are asking anyone who might have information or were around the area near Route 66 and 150 between that time Thursday night to call North Greenbush police at (518) 283-5323.
