ALBANY, N.Y. – A week after Election Day and still no decision on the $196 million renovation and expansion project at Albany High School.

County Board of Elections officials did not finish counting the close to 700 absentee ballots Tuesday. Officials still have to get through 412 votes from Wards 12 and 15, so counting will resume on Thursday morning.

On Election Day, the decision came down to just ten votes, with a majority in opposition to the upgrade.

Meanwhile, proponents say the school needs to get up to date with technology.

“We’ll just have to wait and see what the result is,” Democratic Elections Commissioner Matthew Clyne said. “It’s an interesting vote for a school district proposition. Normally, they don’t appear on the general election ballot, usually it’s part of the city school district’s budget.”

If the project passes by absentee ballots, property owners will pay roughly $42 more per year on a $100,000 per home.
