BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. -- Dan Barner has a passion for small businesses.

"In my opinion, it's the fabric of America. It's how we got started and what keeps us going," Barner said.

That love was instilled at a very young age.

"My mother owned a couple small businesses when I was a kid, and then in high school and college I worked for a few small businesses."

It eventually led him to the College of Saint Rose to study Business Administration. Now, at just 25 years old, Barner is a small business owner himself.

"As soon as I graduated, I started Prolific Marketing and I haven't looked back since," Barner said.

Barner launched Prolific Marketing four years ago in Ballston Spa. The marketing company does everything from designing websites, social media, business cards, brochures, and more for, no surprise, small businesses.

"It's definitely a dream come true, a little scary, lots of unknowns but just went for it and started to talk to people and make relationships and it's been a great learning experience," said Barner.

Since opening, Prolific Marketing has  worked with around 100 companies around the Capital Region and beyond. It has two full-time employees and two part-time and is looking to grow in the future.

"It's just about making relationships, meeting people, and getting the name out there and then bringing in the talent to support that growth. We plan to keep growing and we'll get there and figure it out," Barner said.

Barner said no matter how much it grows, its focus will remain on small businesses first.
