Late Sunday evening, police were called to 9 Twiss Road in Fort Ann for reports of an unattended death. They found 95-year-old Leona Twiss dead inside the home. After examining the scene, police ruled it suspicious.

Investigators were called to the scene and requested an autopsy. The autopsy results ruled strangulation as the cause of death.

The victim's grandson, 50-year-old Kevin Gonyea, and his wife Melissa were home when police responded. They were arrested and then arraigned Wednesday morning.

Police say the couple moved into the home on Twiss Road last fall. The grandfather passed away this year, and Kevin and his wife were most recently Leona's sole care providers.

Kevin Gonyea was charged with second degree murder, hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence. Melissa was charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence as well.

Kevin Gonyea is being held without bail. Melissa Gonyea is being held in lieu of $30,000 cash, $60,000 bond.
