The man suspected in several arsons in Pittsfield this weekend appeared in a Vermont courtroom Monday afternoon.

A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of 58-year-old Phillip Jordan at arraignment on a fugitive of justice charge.

The Berkshire County District Attorney's Office says Jordan is facing three counts of burning a dwelling house in connection with fires set Saturday.

Authorities say he was captured at a Vermont-Canada border, and now awaits extradition to Massachusetts to face those charges.

Police say he set fires at his own house, and the homes of three family members.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be added as it continues.
