There is new development in the ongoing story of missing and feared dead Schenectady baby Rayen Puleski: His father was in court today after being arrested on drug charges.
Rayen's mother, Heaven Puleski, is already facing charges in relation to the baby's disappearance. Now, the Stockade Deli in Schenectady is at the center of a Friday drug bust.
According to the United States Attorney's Office, 41-year-old Rayen Hussein and 31-year-old Abdulqadoos Alomari have been in charge of a conspiracy to sell K2, a dangerous synthetic drug, out of the store since last summer. Assistant United States Attorney Emmet O'Hanlon says they sold the drug to homeless and low-income people, who would then use it at a park across the street.
But Hussein’s attorney, Kevin Luibran, argues his client had a conversation with a confidential informant at the store which never reached a criminal level.
On Friday, authorities got their hands on several bright colored bags of the drug, totaling nearly a kilogram.
Bond was set at $50,000 and in an attempt to post bond, Hussein’s brother was in the process of selling the old Scotia Village Market. But after a 20-minute recess, that idea was quickly shot down. According to O’Hanlon, the ingredients to manufacture K2 were assembled at that Scotia store.
Hussein will remain behind bars at the Albany County Jail. His brother tells Spectrum News that Hussein is not the father of Rayen Puleski and that Heaven Puleski is making it all up.
Hussein waived his right to a preliminary hearing. There may be a bail hearing set on a future date, but right now there is no set next court date for Hussein.
