An Albany man faces charges including murder in connection with a January shooting that was the city's first homicide of 2018.

Shakir Redmon was arraigned Monday in Albany County court, pleading not guilty to all counts facing him.

Redmon is accused of conspiring to kill, and carrying out the killing of, Anthony Malloy on Jan. 4 in the area of First and Quail streets. It was the first of 10 murders to date in Albany this year. That's already more than the city's 2017 total.

Prosecutors say Redmon used a gun he possessed illegally, and say he also had cocaine with him at the time. Redmon remains in custody until his next court appearance.
