Two Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies are accused of covering up a hit-and-run of a teenager last month.

According to the sheriff, 18-year-old Julian Louscher was hit by a car on July 11 while riding his skateboard on Northern Boulevard in Amsterdam around 9 p.m. The victim suffered cuts and scrapes. The incident wasn't reported until around 12:45 the next day.

The sheriff says Investigator Roberto Gracia from his office was driving the car and left the scene. Gracia and another deputy, Theresa Pingitore, were arrested as a result, for not reporting the incident.

Sheriff Michael Amato says this is a failure of the accused as officers of the law.

"That's the basis for our job: integrity. To be able to do our job the integrity the public expects us to do which is when something like this happens, reporting it, and when they fail to do that, they fail to do their duties as they swear to do them as an officer of the law," said Amato.

Gracia is facing failure to report an accident, professional misconduct and tampering with evidence charges. Pingitore is facing a professional misconduct charge. They're both on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
