ROTTERDAM, N.Y. -- A six-hour long stand-off in Rotterdam ended with an arrest Tuesday.

Rotterdam police say Brian Beloncik surrendered to officers shortly before 5 p.m. and was taken into custody.

They were called to his 4th Avenue home in the morning after a neighbor reported that he was spray-painting obscenities on his property. Police say things quickly escalated when Beloncik allegedly shot his neighbor with a BB gun before barricading himself in his house.

That neighbor, Robert Paturso, talked about police officers' quick action in the heat of the moment.

"Officer Swayer, he bee-lined to me and got me out of harm's way," Paturso said. "If it was a real gun, he put his life in jeopardy just to get me where I was safe."

After several hours, a Schenectady SWAT team fired several rounds of gas into the home to get Beloncik out.

He was arraigned on charges of reckless endangerment, arson, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. Beloncik was taken to Schenectady County Jail on $100,000 bail.
