Albany police and the attorney general's office have taken down a major drug ring, leading to charges against 13 people.

The attorney general says the drug bust came after a six-month-long investigation. Authorities say the operation was bringing heroin, fentanyl and cocaine from New York City to the Capital Region.

Investigators say the two leaders of the ring -- Cedric Willaims and Virgil Faircloth -- are accused of selling fentanyl to addicts looking for heroin, a drug that can be 50 times stronger.

The attorney general's office says the arrests are part of the SURGE initiative, which has brought down more than 300 drug traffickers since it started a little more than a year ago.
