Sentencing for Johnny Oquendo is delayed once again, as he seeks a new trial after he was found guilty of murder in November.

The Rensselaer County District Attorney's office confirms Oquendo will be looking to have the conviction overturned on the grounds of "ineffective assistance of legal counsel." He was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday for killing his stepdaughter Noel Alkaramla, stuffing her body into a suitcase, and dumping it into the Hudson River in Troy in November 2015.

Late last month, the original sentencing date was pushed back for technical reasons in the pre-sentencing investigation. Unless an appeal is granted, and a new trial ordered, Oquendo still faces 25 years to life in prison.
