HENRIETTA, N.Y. -- A woman from Bergen and a Rochester man were pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash that also left a New York State trooper injured.

Troopers said that Kristina Maye was driving a car heading south that veered off the northbound lanes of Interstate 390 in Henrietta, between Hylan Drive and East Henrietta Road, just before 9 a.m. Monday. The car drove across the median and struck a vehicle heading north.

Maye and her passenger, Terry Gilbert, were both killed in the crash. Both were 25 years old.

The other vehicle was driven by Lieutenant Amie Feroleto, who was on her way to work driving an unmarked, undercover car. Feroleto was taken to a Rochester hospital for surgery. Her injuries were described as serious, but troopers said she was in stable condition.

"Scenes like this are tough to deal with,” said Maj. Richard Allen, New York State Police. “Our guys are professional, they know what they have to do, they go out and get the job done, day after day. It makes it a little tougher when it’s one of our members involved in it, but we take care of business as we do every day."

Troopers also said a third vehicle hit the bumper of the southbound vehicle, but no one in that vehicle was injured.
