ALBANY, N.Y. -- The man who pleaded guilty in the beating death of a woman at South Mall Towers was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Gerard Burks pleaded guilty to murder in the death of 63-year-old Lori Milks.

His sentencing had been adjourned several times over the last year due to issues with his attorney.

In May, Burks admitting to beating Milks last November, cracking her skull and fracturing her spine.

He's sentenced to life in state prison, with a minimum of 18 and a half years to be served.
