For Democrats in New York, taking control of the state Senate has been a goal for years.

And with a fired-up base and several Republican retirements, they're optimistic this year is their chance.

They've also solved the problem of a group of breakaway Democrats who were in a power-sharing agreement with the GOP.

But they still need to pick up at least one seat tomorrow.
