Keeping kids safe on their way to and from school has been a big topic since June, when the legislature adjourned without renewing New York City's speed camera program.

But as we get closer to the start of the new school year, the New York Association for Pupil Transportation is focusing on another angle: cameras on school buses.

There is a bill to put more cameras on the stop arms of buses to catch drivers who illegally pass them.

But the measure wasn't approved, so the association is trying to build support before the legislature reconvenes.

Explaining further is New York Association for Pupil Transportation's executive director Peter Mannella.
