As our coworkers in Buffalo reported Tuesday, the Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center will remain where it is, in West Seneca. This ends a five-year battle, with staff, parents and local lawmakers on one side, and a state Office of Mental Health plan on the other. The state plan was to merge the campus with the renovated Buffalo Psychiatric Center, where adults are treated. Governor Cuomo confirmed today that the children's center will stay put, and announced that his administration has identified other resources to support services for up to 1,000 children outside a clinical setting. Joining us from Buffalo to discuss this is Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns, who pushed for the center to stay in West Seneca.
